Listi County Fair

We finally had the kids' birthday party!! I put a lot of time, love and effort into making this special and fun for my babies and I know they had a blast. Hayes turned 3 and Georgia turned 5 so we wanted to celebrate them in a big way! Back in the spring at the St. Alban's fundraiser, I bid on a Pony Party package and won! I knew it would be a fun party theme for anyone of my kids! Since G and HB's birthdays are only 1 day apart I tend to want to do their parties together, at least until they refuse my plan.

We planned the party for a Friday evening, hoping it would be cooler and to have the rest of our weekend to relax. After a lot of back and forth I finally decided on a County Fair theme versus a Pony Party/Cowboy theme. I wanted to do something different and loved that there were so many ideas to go along with it. I really had way too many ideas for games/snacks/décor that I had to just stop thinking about it and choose a few. It was a lot of fun putting together and crafting for it!
I wanted to save money where I could because we were inviting a lot of friends and with the kids' ages being so young we knew the parents would stay as well. And it was during dinner time. I chose to send the invites online through Evite. I almost didn't do it just because it felt weird not sending a written invitation, but I am so glad I did. I got them done so quickly (after I settled on a design) and almost every person RSVPed and did it really timely. It was so nice knowing how many gift bags to prepare and how much food to get. I also borrowed a lot of decorations and anything I could such as tables and chairs, the bounce house, table decorations and serving pieces. Once again, I will do that again..so happy to save some money in that area!

So I planned the party around the ponies we were renting. And of course, the last 2 weeks it has been raining everyday, downpours throughout the day. It was literally an hour before we knew if they were coming or not. The pony lady showed up Friday morning to see how ground looked. She said it was fine and our ground was a lot more dense than hers. So I was excited!! Well, not 3 hours later it decided to rain again, then again and then it was a steady rain starting around 4:30. That's when she finally called and cancelled. I was bummed. Not really surprised but disappointed. Daniel did have to point out to me that the kids didn't really seem to care too much. That did make me feel better. But I did have to point out to Daniel that it meant we would have to have another party to have the ponies at now! I'm sure he was thrilled. It did stop raining during the party but it was so hot and muggy outside so we put some games indoors.

We had a full house and people everywhere. Kids and parents were in and out of the house but mainly either on the back porch or around the kitchen area. The house was trashed with goldfish, cotton candy, lemonade and tickets smashed into the carpet and soaked in the grass outside, but it was all worth it. The kids were smiling and so happy to see their friends. It really did turn out wonderfully despite the weather and I actually think it was better that the ponies didn't come. Sam was able to come and he helped make popcorn and hand it out and he babysat Sidney and kept her happy with Cheerios!

Some games I planned for the party were bean bag toss (I made), basketball hoops (I bought at Sam's and it is awesome!), bubble blowing, face painting (I had a teenager come and paint), ping pong ball toss for goldfish, pony rides (stationery pony from my parents), sack races (I forgot to do this but probably too wet), a ticket booth the kids actually loved taking turns handing out tickets to eachother and put them in buckets to play the games. I painted signs that were supposed to go by each game outside but instead I just propped them up next to the makeshift station we made.

Some fair foods we offered were: popcorn, mini caramel & chocolate apples, goldfish, carrots & ranch, chips, hotdogs, sausage on a stick, corndogs, pasta salad, lemonade, water, tea, sangria, and beer. I also made Hayes' requested tie-dye cupcakes, Georgia's strawberry 3-layer cake, a chocolate dump cake, cotton candy and lots of big gumballs!! The kids received a goodie bag with a little thank you poem and some 'prizes' that the kids picked out to take home.
I think this was one of my most favorite birthdays so far. It went smoothly considering our set-up plans were up in the air just an hour before it started. I hope this is something that they remember and look back happily on for years to come. If they don't remember it, then I'll just show them pictures and tell them the stories..and I can enjoy my memories..after all, shouldn't a child's birthday be just as much a celebration for them as the mother who carried them for 9 months and delivered them on that special day!?! I think so!

Sidney Rose is 7 months!!

Sidney Rose is growing up too fast but we are learning to get every ounce of sweetness out of her each minute of each day!

*Sidney is 20 pounds of love. She gets compliments everywhere we go of her dimpled thighs and her squishy cheeks! She fills out her clothes nicely.

*Speaking of clothes Sidney is wearing 9-18 month clothes and can sometime wear smaller brand new ones or larger older and washed many times clothes. She wears size 3 diapers and doesn't really wear shoes much..though wears Robeez some.
*Sidney is a mover now! She is semi-crawling but mainly in the 'sweet spot' as I like to call it..she sits up and is content with the toys around her and watching people but she can't follow me room to room yet. She does love to move and roll and scoot all over. She is finally getting the crawling motion down and her siblings are so excited to watch her and give her much praise! So sweet!

*She is a wonderful eater still. She nurses very proficiently about 4-6 times/day. She sleeps through the night and gets through a full feeding in under 10 minutes. Sidney ate plain greek yogurt, for the first time, and she loved it (it was mixed with avocado and I loved it too). She also is eating a little bigger chunks of fruit, but not a whole lot newer than that.
*Sidney sleeps wonderfully. She is now in a good routine for naps and nighttime..! It is so nice that she goes to bed by 8pm at night awake with her paci and Taggie. She definitely loves her lovies. Wakes up anywhere from 6:30-8:30am, naps around 10am.
Depending on if she is home or in her carseat depends on her naptime. If she is home she will nap for up to 4 hours, otherwise, she will catnap and get some here and there. Poor thing, more times than not, she naps in her carseat, but is always smiling. I am trying nowadays to get her at least 2 hours in her bed at some point.
*She is trying to clap and wave. She is really figuring out her arms and hands and loves to slap things. Sidney starts flailing around when she is excited and does a high-pitched squeal to go along with it!
We love you sweet angel baby and you will never know how you complete our family. Thank you for your unconditional love you give us and all the endless joy, smiles and laughter you bring! You're always "my little buttercup"!

#aggiesvsbama #BTHOBama #RMFT

SO the game of the year finally happened. The much anticipated third weekend of college football came and now went. And it did not disappoint!!
At least not in the way most people mean. I have a semi-unique position in that I was rooting for both teams. How can that be, I mean, really, how can that be? It is tricky. And up until last year it really wasn't an issue.
The Aggies could play all season in the Big 12 and Bama was sitting pretty in the SEC..all was good! Then things had to get all willy-nilly last season and my two worlds collided.

Daniel and I were very excited about the Aggies entering the SEC and what it would mean for our school. We loved the idea of them playing teams we got to know better when we lived in the heart of the SEC when we were first married. And Bama football is so exciting to watch especially being in Tuscaloosa!!
Everything changed last year though. Johnny Football was the Aggies new QB and was on fire. He was leading the Aggies to amazing wins, excited games and just some jaw dropping, nail biting plays. It was time to play Alabama in Tuscaloosa. My whole family went to the game, but we couldn't make the drive, so we had some friends in town staying with us and geared up for an exciting game.
Seriously, I knew the Aggies with JFF's help would do good. I hoped it would be close and we wouldn't make a fool of ourselves. But I will be honest and say, I never truly thought the Aggies would upset the Tide on their own turf. It wasn't going to happen..so I was just ready to watch a fun game.

Well, hell! I was wrong and I was stunned. Literally me and Daniel were speechless and couldn't really believe or enjoy the Aggies beating Alabama that fateful Saturday in 2012. But it did happen.

I had never been more happy I wasn't at a football game in all my life. I KNOW that my family members, who shall remain nameless, were so upset, sore losers, in disbelief at what occurred. I mean I was just sitting on my couch at home, completely sober...not even going to try and imagine the scene in T-town that night.

So it has been a long year coming. The Tide (with everyone else in the world) has been waiting for their chance to right the wrong, to fix the mistakes, to show that they were true deserving champions. Even though the Tide won the National Championship game it still stung. Even in the offseason when Johnny Football won the Heisman (such a wonderful and strangely proud moment for me), caused all kinds of commotion with his Twitter comments and got suspended for the 1st half of the 1st game for questions of selling his autographs, the rematch has always been the talk of the town.

And it happened and it was great. I was so nervous in the weeks leading up to the game. Would it live up to the hype, would Manziel play, would the Tide really be able to show out? I heard the town was crowded and the noise level was better than ever. It started out so similar to last year. My mom even called with panic in her voice...what do I do? How will we get through if they don't win? (Yes, Mom I had to out you.) Then Bama settled down and played their hearts out. And you know what? So did the Aggies!! They hung in there to make it an awesome, memorable game. We invited a few friends over, cooked some more dove and snacked, talked and enjoyed the game from the safety of our own home, again. Tide won 49-42 over the Aggies. And I almost picked that exact score on my Pick 'Em just so you know!
My family was all there again. And I know my dad and brothers were happy to be in Kyle Field and get to yell, "We just beat the hell outta you!" at the end of the game as is customary for the Tide when they beat their opponents.
So here's my truth. And ya'll I'm just writing this to be able to look back and remember it from my perspective, using the slang terms we use and see written and so I can really feel the way it was... I feel more comfortable that Alabama won, like it's the way it's supposed to be. I needed the Aggies to play amazing and for #2 to do his thing and make some great plays. And that happened as well. I picked the Aggies to win on my pick 'em, but really only on the off chance they won so I could get the extra points. But I didn't really think or expect them to win again...So the Tide rolled and it felt right. Now if the Aggies could pull off a miracle and some other teams could falter this season where they play again for the National Championship, then I would love that, but again I would be so torn.
Here's to my two favorite teams in the world: My Aggies, whose ring I wear everyday with pride and the Tide, the team I grew up cheering for and watching in the rain. I will never grow tired of watching you play, even against each other! And I will let my babies choose which school they want to cheer for and where they want to attend, but don't think there won't be some brainwashing going on over here! And if you don't agree with what I'm saying, that's ok. I'm ok with that, but maybe, just maybe one of you can relate!
